The Experience for Families: a quick guide

  1. Browse and Book: Browse my photos, look around the site, and if we seem like a good fit, let’s e-mail, chat by phone or meet in person. We’ll talk about what your family likes to do, plan some activity options for the session, and discuss how you might like to display your photos after the shoot. You’ll reserve your appointment date with a session fee.

  2. Play Day: I’ll show up with cameras, patience, and respect. Your family can just interact as it usually does throughout the day’s routines and some of the activities we planned. If anyone has a meltdown, we’ll be prepared and gentle. If everyone’s playing hard, we’ll be prepared and messy.

  3. Photo Presentation: I’ll visit your home again and present the photos to you. You’ll see and feel physical samples of albums and framed pieces, and I’ll guide you through the ordering process. There are no minimum requirements, so what you choose to purchase and display is completely up to you.

  4. Delight in your Display: Your final products will be delivered to you, and depending on your framed photo order, hung on your walls that day. Enjoy, and share with loved ones!

What should we wear?

Wear what you feel good & comfortable in. As a rule, fitted clothes are more flattering than loose ones. Solids, textures, accessories, complimentary colors are good.

Matchy-matchy family, white clothes, words or images on clothes are not so good.

I'll send more details once you book your session!

Can I customize an order?

Totally, yes! We can collaborate to customize your session and the way you display your pictures. I really geek out over ways to show off your photos, so I'll be delighted to show you samples of various options that work within your space and budget. I have lots of ready-to-gift and ready-to-hang ideas, and I also work with a great team that will come to you and hang finished pieces on your walls. I can tell you from personal experience, it's sooo worth avoiding 47 holes in the wall for 6 pictures! These guys get it right the first time, and they work fast.

How do we schedule a session?

After you reach out via email or phone, we'll talk and make a plan, and I'll request a deposit to hold your appointment time.

Crankiness commonly dissolves once I get to know your kids one-to-one, and when parents take a little step back, relax, and allow me to steer the ship during our time together.

If there’s an emergency situation the day of the shoot such as an illness, we will reschedule.

"Thanks for your amazing talent, and also for taking a couple of irritable kids and putting smiles on their faces." --Jonathan R.

Do we have to pose and smile? We kind of hate that.

Maaaybe for a minute, to be sure everyone’s together in one frame? Then let's spend the rest of our time playing instead. We'll talk before your session to choose a couple of activities your family already enjoys. Could be going to a farmer's market, playing sports, creating art, building a fort, cooking a meal. We'll hang out and enjoy the day, and the pictures will tell stories about each of you and your relationships. That's more fun.
